Before You Get Your Puppy by Dr. Ian Dunbar - A MUST READ for anybody looking into getting a puppy. As the title indicates, this book is chock full of info that should be addressed BEFORE you've settled on a particular puppy. There's info regarding how to research breeders, critical developmental age deadlines, how to set up your house for a new a pup, errorless housetraining etc.. It has some SUPER info for after you have your pup as well. It can also be downloaded for free at the link above.

After You Get Your Puppy by Dr. Ian Dunbar - In my opinion, this is the bible for anybody who has a puppy. Since the first 4 months of a dog's life are critical, it discusses what things should be covered by when to help your dog develop into a safe and friendly adult. It also gives lots more info on how to structure your environment and training to ensure a successful owner/puppy relationship.

How to Teach a New Dog Old Tricks – by Ian Dunbar, the godfather of the early puppy training movement. Humorous and full of great common sense.

The Power of Positive Dog Training by Pat Miller – an excellent introduction to the basics of positive training. Pat Miller's writing is super easy to read and understand.

Positive Perspectives "Love Your Dog, Train Your Dog" by Pat Miller – This book takes articles that Pat Miller has written for periodicals like 'The Whole Dog Journal' and compiles them in one place. It takes her writing, which is super easy to read and understand anyway, and puts it into manageable nuggets of information for obedience as well as behavior problems.

The Culture Clash, Jean Donaldson – The book gives a new perpective on how our dog's minds work. It redefines our relationships with our dogs!

Don’t Shoot the Dog, Karen Pryor – training theory in everyday language. Not just about training dogs, Pryor also writes how these theories apply to dolphins, ponies, spouses and children!
